THE SKY

True or false?

Why is the sky blue?

The sky is blue because it reflects the ocean.

(Read on to find out!)

The answer

Sunlight scatters, and blue scatters the most!

Sunlight is made of all colors mixed together. When it hits the air, the blue light bounces around the sky more than the others, so blue is what fills your eyes when you look up.

WOW!

On the Moon there’s no air to scatter light, so the sky there looks black even in daytime!

Why it works

Made for the way kids really read

Children don't read an encyclopedia front to back. They flip, land somewhere, read one page and shout the fact across the room. Every page in this book works on its own.

One question per page

Never a wall of text. Each of the 104 questions gets its own big, full-colour page, so kids can open anywhere and dive in.

Three reading levels

A bold answer a 5-year-old gets right away, the real “why” for older readers, and a WOW! fact worth sharing at school tomorrow.

True or false? first

Every question page opens with a statement to test. Kids guess before they read, then find out if they were right.

8 worlds to explore

The journey starts with your child's own body, travels all the way out to the stars, then jumps back in time and into the future.

A Brain Zone in every world

Busted myths and a quick quiz at the end of each world turn reading into a game you can play together.

Big Words I Learned

An illustrated glossary at the back explains the trickiest words in the book, from diaphragm to echolocation.

My kids can't stop asking to read it!

This encyclopedia has become a bedtime favorite at our house. The full-colour illustrations are bright and engaging, and the questions are exactly the kind my kids actually ask, like why the sky is blue and how planets form. The explanations are simple enough for young readers but never feel dumbed down. The pages are sturdy and the layout makes it easy to flip around and pick a topic. It's sparked so many great conversations, and it makes a perfect gift.
